Aqueduct Race Track 🏇🏾// Sat., Dec. 7, 2024

Fink

Happy Saturday & National Pear Harbor Remembrance Day!

We are back in the saddle and ready to head back to the Deby/Oaks Trail! We are headed to the East Coast today to play the ponies from the NYRA and Aqueduct Race Course. Today's card has 10 races, four stakes races, two prep races, and lottsa runners. Today in the 7th, KD prep, and 8th, KO Prep, races we will hand out 10-5-3-2-1 points to the top five horses in each race. These points will help the top finishers work towards the starting gate from Kentucky the first weekend in May. These early prep races give us a nice tune up on the top contenders in the three year old division next year but also allows for a bit of overreaction when a horse win these races. The featured race today comes in the 9th race The Cigar Mile. Before we get to the picks here is some history on this race:

The Cigar Mile Stakes is a Grade 1 horse race held annually at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. Named after the legendary racehorse Cigar, the event is run over a one-mile dirt course and attracts top older horses from across the country. As the final major race of the year for dirt milers, it often serves as a stage for horses looking to solidify championship credentials or cap off their seasons with a prestigious victory. With a rich history and a lucrative purse, the Cigar Mile has become a highlight of late fall racing, combining thrilling competition with a nod to one of the sport’s all-time greats.

The weather today will be chilly with highs in the low 40s. There is no rain in sight so we will have a fast track and be off turf for all races, the card was scheduled this way.

Each year in the United States, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day honors all those who lost their lives when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. More than 3,500 Americans lost their lives or were wounded on that solemn day.

The day marked a turn in the United States' position regarding involvement in World War II. The Japanese attack damaged several battleships, permanently sinking both the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma. Still, others capsized, taking crew members with them. One noted ship was the USS Utah. Along with naval vessels, the attack destroyed aircraft, too. As a result, the attack forced the U.S. into a war that had been raging for two years. The day is also sometimes referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day.
