Happy Saturday! We are rolling right along in the new year and for the first time in 2024, we have multiple stops to hit across the country! First up, we continue down the Kentucky Derby prep road and head to Queens, NY to play the ponies from Aqueduct Race Track. We have 9 total races today with the featured race coming in the 3rd race The Jerome Stakes. The top five horses receive 10-5-3-2-1 points towards qualifying for the first weekend in May and the run for the roses! Only one horse in the five horse field has earned points before today so that means we should be in for a fierce run by all who are entered! Interestingly, The Jerome is the second oldest stakes race in the United States behind the Travers Stakes. It is named after Leonard W. Jerome, the grandfather of Winston Churchill and the founder of the old Jerome Park Racetrack in The Bronx. Notable horses that have won the Jerome include inaugural Kentucky Derby winner Aristides in 1875, Fitz Herbert in 1909, Bold Ruler in 1957, Kelso in 1960, Carry Back in 1961 and Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000. Today's weather is going to be cold and wet per usual for the Northeast this time of year. We will see highs in the upper 30s with chances of snow mixed with Rain. All races are on dirt so scratches should be limited today.
