Get that pasta and egg yolks prepped early for dinner as we have a huge day of racing ahead! Today is the final win and you're in races on the Kentucky Derby trail as we have three races across the country. Our first stop today is Jamaica, NY to play the ponies of NYRA from Aqueduct Racetrack. Just like the rest of the win and in races this season, the derby prep board will get a shake-up as 100-50-25-15-10 points will be awarded to the top five horses. Not to be outdone the Kentucky Oaks Prep trail closes today and we will have the final standings for the first Friday in May. The ladies will also be handing out 100-50-25-15-10 points. The Oaks is capped at 14 horses so each filly here has some work to do today as 7 or the 10 have points to their name already. They are featured in race 8, the $200K grade 3 Gazelle Stakes. This is a nine-furlong route over the dirt and post time is scheduled for 11:58 am Pacific. The featured race comes in race 10, The GII Wood Memorial. This is also a nine-furlong route over the dirt where history can be made as this race has produced 11 past winners of the Kentucky Derby; however, there has not been a winner of the Wood to win the derby since 2000. Seven of the 13 entries already have derby prep points, so will one of them shine above the rest? Will the M/L fave Derterminastic look to be on top of the leaderboard to cement his claim to top horse going into the derby? Or will a lesser known horse, Tuscan Sky, who has looked outstanding in his only two career races follow the path of Mage, last year's Derby winner, and announce his presence today?
Today's card has a total of 11 races, with 5 of those being stakes races. We have some decent sized fields today so lottsa runners to put together some winning tickets. The weather will be mild with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s most of the day. There is little to no chance of rain just some clouds throughout the day. All races are on dirt and the track is fast so will speed prevail all day?
