🏇Happy Belmont (at Saratoga) Day! 🏇 &

National "Name Your Poison Day"! 🍹

Well, we made it! There is no official end to the horse racing season but from late November to the beginning of June we are on the triple crown trail. We have prep races, we have workouts, and we of course have the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and now The Belmont Stakes! This year has been a fun ride as we have played in the Trust the Prophets Tour de Force and currently sit in second place. We have one race left today as the Belmont Stakes from Saratoga continues today. Our official ticket for that contest will be out later on X. We have 14 races, it's very early here on the West Coast, with 9 total stakes races, six of which are G1, lottsa runners, and of course the final Jewel of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. Today's card is very unique, not just because of location vs name, but there are extra ticket opportunities as the Met Mile in the 10th is a very popular race as well today and offers a separate double pool with the Belmont.

Today marks the 156th running of the Belmont Stakes. This is the longest of the triple crown races at 12 furlongs and will come on the dirt course at Saratoga for the first time. Some may ask why this is not the longest-running sporting event in history if the Kentucky Derby has only been run 150 times. For two years in New York state, 1911 and 1912, the race was not run due to laws passed. The winner of the Belmont Stakes will been presented with the August Belmont Trophy. The owner may keep the trophy for one year and also receive a silver miniature for permanent use.

The weather and horse racing Gods smiled down on us this weekend and whisked any rain away very quickly. Today we will see highs in the low 70s with cloudy skies but the rain is mild if at all. With the movement in weather, we have a fast track, great for deep closers like Sierra Leone, and a firm turf. Here at Turtle Sports, we pick out poison in a variety of ways and we hope you do today as well. This journey we have been on since the start, and this year especially with all that has gone on, we appreciate each of you for reading this and wish you the best of luck today in making a few bucks on one of the greatest racing days of the year!

While "nominate your poison" harkens back to the early days of the temperance movement, the phrase seems to have been used mostly to describe the action of ordering the drink. Even in 1914, as the mayor of New Bavaria, Ohio, proposed a law requiring all drinkers to apply for drinking licenses, the phrase was popular. The phrase comes in many forms – pick, choose, or name - and, of course, nominate your poison.

The phrase "name your poison" is a lighthearted way to make people choose. The term seems to have started around the mid-1800s as a way for patrons to refer to ordering a drink. Phrases like "What's your poison?" and "Pick your poison" were among variations of the terms, depending on where you lived.
