šHappy Saturday & National Scrapple Day! š·
Another big day of racing ahead and the featured race celebrates an iconic actor and will come in the eighth. Let's take a look at this race before we move on:
The Cary Grant Stakes is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Del Mar Racetrack in California. Named in honor of the classic Hollywood actor, a longtime Del Mar patron and horse-racing enthusiast. This race is open to California-bred horses and is typically run over a distance of seven furlongs on a dirt track. Originally called the On Trust Handicap, it was renamed in 2005 to commemorate Grantās connection to the racing community and Del Marās glamorous history
Cary Grant, born Archibald Leach in 1904, was a British-American actor celebrated for his charm, wit, and distinctive mid-Atlantic accent. Known for his versatility, he excelled in both comedic and dramatic roles, becoming a symbol of sophistication and style in Hollywoodās Golden Age. Grant starred in iconic films such as North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, and Bringing Up Baby, often collaborating with directors like Alfred Hitchcock and Howard Hawks.
Today's card has nine total races, one stakes race (see above), and lottsa runners. The weather is a bit cooler today with highs in the upper 60s and sunny skies. If you have ever visited Del Mar you know this is going to be a great day of racing as the surf meets the turf. The track will be fast and the turf will be firm meaning the ponies will be ready to go all day long!

"National Scrapple Day on November 9th recognizes the first pork food invented in America. For those not familiar with scrapple, it is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal, wheat flour, and spices, such as sage, thyme, savory, and black pepper. The mush is then formed into a semi-solid loaf, sliced and pan-fried." (From our friends at National Day Calendar)
