As Bruce Buffer says, "IIIIIIIIT'S TIME!!!" The Kentucky Derby Trail starts today from Fairground racecourse in New Orleans, LA. Today's card has a whopping 14 races, 6 of which are stakes, and features race 14 the Lecomte Stakes (GIII). This race has a lot of history just like this track does. The Lecomte Stakes has been run since 1943 and in 2003 was given the grade three designation it holds today. As noted the trail to the Kentucky Derby starts today and five horses today will earn derby points which are necessary to run in the first leg of the triple crown. The irony is everyone considers this the beginning of the prep season because horses are now 3 years old but this is actually the 20th race on the prep trail! With so many big races today let's take a look at the schedule:

Running conditions are looking spectacular with a fast track and firm turf, with temps in the high 50s and no rain in the forecast until after the card concludes. The track should be good all day and the first post is at 10:00 AM Pacific so saddle up and let's ride!!!
