Happy Saturday & National French Fried Shrimp Day! š¤
We have a huge day of sports ahead, arguably the biggest day in football we've seen in decades. However, that won't stop us from hitting the track to play the ponies. We are staying in the bayou after having one too many sangrias yesterday, but we're fending off the hangover with some French fried shrimp as we tackle the full card at Fairgrounds Racecourse in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Yesterday, we achieved a decent return on investment (ROI) of 46.3% with four top pick winners. If you played our top two winners, you would have a total of five wins, but your ROI would be -9.4% since you had to double your investment.
Today's card features 12 races, including 7 stakes races and 2 prep races. As we are still in the early stages of the Derby/Oaks Prep, we are awarding points of 10-5-3-2-1 to the top finishers. We can expect highs today in the low 50s with sunny skies predicted, which means we will have a fast track and firm turf to enjoy all day.
Now, let's take a closer look at our two featured races before we get to the picks.
Gun Runner: Born in 2013, he was sired by Candy Ride and out of Quiet Giant, making him a product of a strong pedigree. Trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimneys Farm, Gun Runner won several prestigious races, including the 2017 Breedersā Cup Classic, where he cemented his legacy. After winning six out of seven starts, he was named 2017 Horse of the Year. Retired to stud in 2018, Gun Runner has become a successful sire, producing high-caliber offspring who continue his winning legacy on the track.
Untapable: Foaled in 2011 and sired by Tapit, she was trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds. Untapableās racing career peaked in 2014 when she won six of seven starts, including the prestigious Kentucky Oaks and the Breedersā Cup Distaff, showcasing her versatility and speed. Her outstanding performances earned her the title of 2014 Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. Known for her consistency and heart, Untapable retired in 2016 and transitioned to broodmare duties.
Fair Grounds Race Course, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, is one of the oldest horse racing tracks in the United States, with its origins dating back to 1838. Known for its rich history and Southern charm, the track has been a cornerstone of American thoroughbred racing.
