We are excited to get back into the swing of things and ride the Kentucky Derby prep trail today as we head to the bayou to play the ponies at Fairgrounds Racecourse in New Orleans, LA. Today's card features twelve races, including six stakes races, one of which serves as a Derby prep, providing plenty of opportunities to cash some tickets.
We were looking forward to the return of one of the top sprinters in the game, Nobals, entered in the sixth race; however, he has been scratched, leaving us without any best bets today. The featured race is the Lecomte Stakes, where the top five horses will earn points towards the Kentucky Derby leaderboard. Four horses in the field of 14 have already finished in the top positions and are looking to shake up the standings, with the potential to take the lead with a win. Three of the entrants previously competed in the Gun Runner Stakes on December 21st, so they have some familiarity with the track and the distance.
Our top-rated horse is Disco Time, while Finky believes we will see improvement from Admiral Dennis; however, he has also scratched and will not run today. Mr. W. thinks Built will repeat his win from the Gun Runner. The weather in New Orleans has been wet and will continue as the card kicks off, but conditions are expected to improve later. We can expect highs in the low 70s and a sloppy track today. Unfortunately, we will be off turf, which means there will likely be more scratches throughout the day, so be sure to check your tickets and adjust as needed.

The Silverbulletday Stakes is a Listed stakes race held annually at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Named in honor of Silverbulletday, the champion filly, and Hall of Fame inductee, the race is restricted to three-year-old fillies and is run over a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards on dirt. It is an important early prep race for the Kentucky Oaks, awarding qualifying points to top finishers.
The Lecomte Stakes is a Grade 3 thoroughbred horse race held annually at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Open to three-year-olds, the race covers a distance of 1 mile and 70 yards on dirt and serves as an early prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
