Lundin Line Best Bets

R3: Qatar Fort Springs Stakes

[3] Artie’s Princess

Following a disqualification for interference in the Coronation Cup on July 31st, Trainer Wesley Ward’s 3 year old filly bounced back in a big way by winning the Ruling Angel Stakes at Woodbine on Sept. 12th (3 3/4 lengths over Our Secret Agent). That race saw 3 of the 5 entrants go on to finish In The Money in their respective next race and two of those (Boardroom & Positive Danger) went on to Win. The Win in the Ruling Angel earned Artie’s Princess her highest Speed figure of 104 and she leads today’s field of 11 with an average Speed of 94 as well as leading in Finish Pace (95.7). Over the last 10 days, Jockey Flavien Prat is winning at 29% and ITM at 71%. At this distance/surface, Ward’s horses are wining at 35%, ITM at 67% and have a +12% ROI. Artie's Princess opens the day at 5-1 odds.

R4: BC Filly and Mare Sprint (GI)

[2] Gamine

While it is true that Bob Baffert’s 3 year old filly brings a bit of, shall we say, positive test baggage, there is no denying the obvious - Gamine is a very fast horse. She enters this year’s BC Filly and Mare Sprint as a strong favorite. Her last outing was the very exciting Kentucky Oaks that featured Gamine, Swiss Skydiver and Shedaresthedevil battle it out with Gamine eventually taking 3rd behind Swiss & winner Shedaresthedevil. Before the Kentucky Oaks, Gamine had wins at the Longines Test Stakes in August and the Acorn in June. Her win at the Acorn earned Gamin her highest Speed figure of 117 & she leads today’s field of 9 with an average Speed of 106. Jockey John Velazquez is at the reigns for today’s race as he was for Gamine’s last 3 races. Velazquez has ridden for Baffert 9 times over the last year and they are winning at 44%, ITM at 89% with a +57% ROI. Over the last 30 days, Baffert’s horses are winning at 41%, ITM at 82% and a +24% ROI. Morning Line Odds for Gamine are 7/5.

R12: Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI)

[8] Improbable

Does Improbable lead today’s field in Early Pace Rating? No - that would would be Maximum Security. How about average Speed? Nope. That would be Tom’s d’Etat. So why not just bet on those two horses, you might ask. By all means, ask away because we've got the answer! While those two horse, along with Improbable and Derby winner Authentic, do round out the Lundin Line’s picks for this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, we've got the reasons why Improbable is going to enter the Winner’s Circle on Saturday. Improbable is coming off 3 consecutive Wins - all of which were GI Stakes races: Hollywood Gold Cup in June, Whitney in August, and, most recently, the Awesome Again at Saratoga on September 26th. His Win at the Whitney earned the 4 year old colt his highest career Speed figure and he followed that up with earning another 120 at the Awesome Again Stakes. He enters today’s race with an average Speed of 113 which is 2nd only to Tom’s d’Etat in this field of 10. Over the past year, Baffert & Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. have teamed 3 times with all three races resulting in wins. When Baffert brings a horse that is coming off a Win, his entrants are winning at 36% and ITM at 71%. Turtle Sports is excited to see this stacked field compete in this year’s BC Classic and expects to cash our winning ticket with the name Improbable on it. Improbable starts the day off at 5/2 odds.

Lundin Line Long Shot Pick

R6: Big Ass Fans BC Dirt Mile

[2] Sharp Samurai

While Sharp Samurai hasn’t won since the City of Hope Mile Stakes in October of 2018, his last 5 starts have all been In The Money, with his last 3 being 2nd place finishes - Eddie Read Stakes in July 2020, TVG Pacific Classic in August. and most recently, this year’s running of the City of Hope Mile on October 3rd. His average Speed of 113 leads this field of 13 and he also leads early, middle and late Pace Ratings. Trainer Mark Glatt’s horses are ITM at 59% in Stakes races over the past year and Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. over the last 30 days in winning at 19%. Sharp Samurai opens the day at 15/1 odds.
