Happy Monday & National Beer Day! 🍺🍻

It's opening day—well, sort of—at Keeneland Racecourse. The first day was originally scheduled for Friday with a full card we had planned, but due to inclement weather, it was decided to push back racing to today. Saturday’s card has also been moved to tomorrow. We will provide coverage for both days, as there are prep races to check out!

Although yesterday marked the official opening day of the meet, we are treating it like a preseason game, so there are no picks from us. However, it seems that the rain continued to fall, making the conditions far from ideal.

Today's card features 10 total races, including three stakes races and one Kentucky Oaks prep race. The featured race is the ninth, which will have eight runners, and it should remain that way as there are no early scratches as of this writing. This race will be held on the dirt track at a distance of 1 and 1/16 miles with a purse of $750,000. The top five horses will earn 100-50-25-15-10 points towards the leaderboard and a chance to run in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in four weeks. This is the final Oaks prep of the season, so after today, we'll have our top 14 horses, with two alternates, which is very exciting for all horseplayers. Every horse in this race has earned prep points, but none have secured a spot in the starting gate, making this one of the best races in the three-year-old filly class we've seen all year.

The last time we analyzed any races was Saturday at both Aqueduct and Santa Anita. At Aqueduct, we only picked one top winner, resulting in a negative ROI on our semi crossover, while our Home Run Line hit the Grand Slam special wager. At Santa Anita, we picked four of 12 top winners, breaking even on our investments. However, we only managed to secure five of 12 top two finishes, ultimately leading to a losing day with an ROI of -41.7%. It was a rough weekend for our cappers, but we will keep pushing forward, as we are committed to this part of the sport!

The weather in Lexington is looking better today, as the rain is tapering off and the sun is expected to come out later in the day. We will have highs in the mid-50s, but the track is rated muddy to start. I anticipate some improvement as the day goes on. The turf is rated good, but due to the wet weather, all races except for the eighth will be off turf. There are many scratches in the turf races because of the track switch, which may lead to adjustments in our picks.
