Happy Saturday & National Grilled Cheese Day! 🧀
It's a happy day because we get to talk about horses, but it's also a sad day as the Derby prep season comes to an end. While we know that not all of the horses running today will make it to the Derby, their participation in today's races may prepare them for another big stakes race or a future Triple Crown event.
Today's card features a total of 11 races, including two stakes races and the Derby prep. The main event comes in the 10th race, but we will focus on the 9th race, which is the last Derby prep.
The Stonestreet Lexington Stakes has a purse of $400,000 and will award points in the standings (20-10-6-4-2), but as noted, none of these horses will qualify for the Derby on the first weekend in May. This race will be run at 1 and 1/16 miles on the dirt course and is expected to be an exciting final leg of this month-long prep trail.
Today's weather is perfect for the ponies, with highs in the mid-50s and mostly sunny skies. The track will be fast, and the turf will be in good condition, so we can expect limited changes today and plenty of opportunities to cash some tickets.

It was revived in 1984 under its current name and has become a key preparatory race for the Kentucky Derby, especially as it offers qualifying points. Traditionally run in mid-April, the Lexington Stakes is open to three-year-olds and is contested over 1 1/16 miles on dirt.
