KY Oaks & Derby Prep Races at Gulfstream Park & Aqueduct // Mar. 1, 2025

Today, we have bonus coverage for you! We’re excited to bring you two derby prep races and two Oaks prep races, making for an amazing day of racing.

First, we head to Hallandale Beach, Florida, for the second of three Oaks prep races this year. The top five horses in this race will earn points in the standings (50-25-15-10-5), which could significantly shake up the leaderboard once the results are official. There are seven runners in the Davona Dale, and three of them have already earned points towards the leaderboard. If two of our handicappers are correct and La Cara wins this race, she will move ahead of Quietside to take the lead.

Next, we travel north to Queens, New York, for Oaks and Derby prep races at Aqueduct Racetrack, presented by NYRA. These races are scheduled back-to-back and offer great opportunities to boost your bankroll. If I hit a daily double, I’ll be sure to share the details on our X account. Similar to the previous race, the top finishers here will earn points (50-25-15-10-5).

First up at Aqueduct is the Busher Stakes, which offers a chance to qualify for the first Friday in May. While none of the horses in this race can overtake Quietside at the top of the standings, a victory could elevate any of them into the top three.

Following that, we have the Gotham Stakes. This race is always exciting, but it hasn’t quite matched the prominence of the Derby, as very few contenders have historically gone on to race for the roses. We’ve already seen one scratch from the field, and none of the remaining horses have accumulated points toward the first Saturday in May. However, a win today could propel them into the top three, so anything is possible.

Finally, we wrap up our east coast racing day back at Gulfstream Park with the Fountain of Youth Stakes. This race has produced many top contenders for the Derby and other legs of the Triple Crown, most recently Dornoch, who won the Belmont Stakes last year. Several horses are vying for a spot in the Derby with a win today. Will we see the future Derby winner among today’s races?

The weather in both locations will be excellent today! In Queens, temperatures will reach the upper 50s at race time, with mostly sunny skies leading to a fast track for the Gotham. Meanwhile, in Hallandale Beach, temperatures will be in the low 80s as the horses leave the gate, also contributing to a fast track. All three handicappers have provided insights on the four prep races below, so be sure to check them out and piece together your tickets based on your favorite selections!
