MLB Saturday October 2nd 2021

Only two days remain in the MLB regular season. There are still three spots in the post season and some positioning to be decided. All of which can be finished today. I hope you have enjoyed this regular season and look for a Turtle Takes Recap of the season with myself and Coach JJ on Monday or Tuesday. We will also look ahead to the post season and where Coach sees some value!!! Currently on a 12-0-1 run so hoping to keep it going today with three total plays today. Best of luck if you follow or fade!!!

Record: 32-20-3 for +10.1 units

Houston Astros

F5 -1/2 (-113)

Houston had their hangover day and now it's time to get back to business. If the Astros win today they clinch Home Field Advantage in the ALDS and throughout the AL playoffs as long as they don't play the Rays. A loss could mean they need to win tomorrow to be able to stay home for the first round. To top it off the A's are sending Paul Blackburn out there and he is not a great road pitcher with an ERA above 5 and at night he is above 6. To be 100% transparent, my best case scenario here is the Astros cash this F5 play, and the A's win the game as I am sitting on an A's team total over 86.5 wins ticket. Can you say sweaty?

Seattle Mariners

F5 -1/2 (-115)

It's Chris Flexen day so I had to play my guy! That's it, that's the handicap on this one! LOL, I kid I kid (Insert Borat here). The Mariners are one game back from the Wild Card and have not made the playoffs since 2001. To say the players on this roster would like to break a 20-year streak and start a new one of making it for 20 years is an understatement. They had a chance to hold onto at least a share of the second wild card but alas, they could not score with runners on yesterday. Their run differential is atrocious this season as discussed on the Pod but I see Flexen shutting down the Angels as they have nothing to play for here. Jhonathan Diaz is making only his third career appearance, the second start of his career, and this is the first game he has ever pitched on the road. While this is a pitcher friendly park, I still see the young guy struggling to get going against a hungry M's squad looking to keep their season alive.

Milwaukee/LA Dodgers

F5 Under 3.5 (-105)

Be very careful with this one as the Dodger could know their Playoff fate before the first pitch. If the Giants win the division earlier in the day by beating the Padres, I am not sure if the Dodgers will come out with the same fire as if they were playing for a division title. Corbin Burnes needs a great outing to help his Cy Young award case and after Scherzer had a rough outing earlier this week, Burnes just might sneak into the lead if he can tamp down the Dodgers potent lineup. Urias is scheduled to start for the Dodgers. If any pitching changes occur our ticket will void as all over/under are listed pitchers only. I do worry if he takes the mound and the Giants have clinched the division title, it is possible Urias only throws 3 innings. As I said, be careful here because there are a lot of unknowns.
