It’s Bristol baby!! That’s right we are in Bristol! A half-mile-high banked dirt track... wait what? Dirt track! Yes, that’s right Bristol has brought the dirt. Now here is the deal. Bristol is not a dirt track. Eldora is a dirt track. Knoxville is a dirt track... but not Bristol. So here are my thoughts. Dirt is very finicky. It changes after every lap. And when you add sun to it, it dries up. Rubber is laid down and it becomes a 1 lane track. I don’t see there being a whole lot of passing unless it’s drivers taking it a little too hot into the corner. If you saw practice you saw Cole Custer basically sideways. And that was just practice. Throw in actual racing into the mix and you’re going to see slower more cautious drivers. The only drivers that I see doing well here are drivers that are familiar with how the car reacts to ever-changing conditions and willing to push the car. These cars are heavier compared to late models that some of these drivers have raced to get a feel for dirt. Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell come to mind. They are seasoned dirt drivers with the mindset of how cars themselves react to the conditions. Once they get upfront they will be able to handle passing lapped cars. Drivers to avoid are drivers that obviously aren’t dirt-track-minded. Clearly, Cole Custer will have a rough time. Also Kevin Harvick, Aric Almirola and Brad Keselowski. I will be looking to fading them. Denny Hamlin will be a driver to look at playing on. He came from the dirt scene. The drivers to look for are going to be the ones that don’t burn their tires off and have a crew chief that can manage their car. This is a brand new experience for most to not burn off their tires once the track has rubbered up.
So here we go let’s get right to it. Our top 5 drivers and 1 EXTREMELY long shot. These are all drivers to finish in the top 10 since matchups aren’t available until closer to the race.
