🏇Pennsylvania Derby & Cotillion Day! 🏇
It’s a huge day at Parx Racing, some would say the biggest racing day of the year at the track, so we thought why not grab some pecan, or is pe-con, cookies head out to Bensalem, PA and play the ponies! The features race today comes in the 13th. The Pennsylvania Derby is a premier Grade 1 horse race held annually at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. It is open to three-year-old thoroughbreds and is run over 1 1/8 miles on a dirt track. Established in 1979, the race has become a key late-season event, offering a substantial purse—most recently $1 million—making it a highly anticipated race for owners and trainers looking to showcase their top colts. The Pennsylvania Derby often attracts horses that have competed in the Triple Crown series, and its timing in late September positions it as a crucial prep race for the Breeders' Cup Classic. Not to be out done, one race prior the ladies take their shot at the biggest race of the meet. Will Thorpedo Anna simply run away with it or will another Filly find her way to a huge upset? The Cotillion Stakes is a prestigious Grade 1 horse race held annually at Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, primarily for three-year-old fillies. Run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt, the race has grown in stature since its inception in 1969, now boasting a purse of $1 million. The Cotillion has become one of the most significant events for fillies in the fall racing season, often attracting some of the top contenders from the Kentucky Oaks and other major stakes races. As a key lead-up to the Breeders' Cup Distaff, it is a proving ground for fillies aiming for championship honors.
Todays card has 14 total races, 11 total stakes, five of which are graded stakes, and lottsa runners! The weather is perfect for racin’ as we will see highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with mostly sunny skies. The turf is good and the track is fast at the writing of this post so we are in for a fantastic day of racing!!!
