Pimlico // Preakness Stakes 147

It's Saturday, May 21st at Pimlico Race Track. It's the second jewel of the Triple Crown. We're talkin' the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes, of course! And we're in for some amazing action: 14 races, tons of runners, 10 stakes, with 6 graded stakes, and features Race 13, the $1 Million Preakness Stakes. There's a lot to cover, so let's get started.

There will be no Triple Crown winner this year as Rich Strike has turned his sights on the Belmont and is skipping the Preakness. However, runner up in the Derby Epicenter is out to prove he should have won the Derby on his way to grabbing the second jewel of the triple crown. He is joined by fellow Derby runners Simpflication and Happy Jack, Joining the party this year as the winner of the Kentucky Oaks is Secret Oath. This fillie is out to prove she belongs with the boys and take them down to show she is a top contender this year in any race she enters!!! Will we see another longshot winner just like two weeks ago? Will we have our 2nd fillie in 3 years win the Preakness? Will Epicenter return to form and win running away?

Running conditions should great. We're expecting firm turf, a fast track and temps to be record-setting in the high 90s with no rain in sight. But because there are so many races, the action is startin' early. First post is at 7:30 AM Pacific, so set that alarm and don't be late! The Bloody Marys and mimosas will be flowin' if you need extra incentive🍹 The day ends with an Arabian Stakes Race, so make sure you stick around until the end!

Now that you have all of the necessary background deets it's time to hit the track. So saddle up and ride with us. We're gettin' #InTheMoney💰

Make sure to check out our friends over at Stable Duel today. They have two contests going with one being a free ride. If you're looking for another way to enjoy the ponies Stable Duel has you covered!!!

Oh, and don't forget to follow us @_TurtleSports and subscribe to our site so you don't miss any of the action. You'll be glad you did! Let's Ride!

Let's check out today's Best Value Horse (BVH). What's our BVH, you ask? Our Best Value Horse is probably not going off as the favorite and is unlikely to go off with the longest odds. Simply put - our Best Value Horse is a runner our very own @TSDaveW likes that should be competitive, and, if it hits, you'll be glad you played it! It's all about getting a great price for a good horse. Odds, of course, change throughout the day, however, we're lookin' at Morning Line Odds when making these picks.

Filling in today is our very own @TSFinky

Race #10 James W. Murphy Stakes 1 mile on Turf

Shake Em Loose (#8)

M/L: 8-1

Shake Em Loose will not jump off the page at you right away when you look at him. This son of Shakin It Up and Cash No Credit was purchased for $1,000 at the yearling sale in October 2020 meaning he got a late start and was not highly sought after. In this race our BVH has the second highest lifetime earnings meaning he is consistently hitting the board. In late 2021 Shake Em Loose was reported Gelding and he won on his first time out. In our experience this is rare and in his next race, he had a bad trip more like a recently gelded horse, and did not hit the board. Why am I telling you this? Well, the next two races came out very strong and won including a 100K stakes race over fellow competitors in this race Joe and Local Motive. While Joe got the better of Shake Em Loose the last time out our BVH was bumped at the gate forcing the jockey to settle in and multiple times the horse wanted to go but had nowhere to go do this positioning. Down the stretch Shake Em Loose turned it up but it was already too late and he took a respectable 3rd. This will only be his second race on turf but we see him using his early speed from post position 8 to dictate the pace and do his best to get you #InTheMoney!!!
