Happy Sunday & National Mulled Wine Day! 🍷

We hope everyone has caught their breath after yesterday's Derby and KY Oaks Prep action. However, due to the storms that hit California over the last few days, we can enjoy one more Derby prep as yesterday's Santa Anita card was rescheduled to today. That Derby Prep is the G2 San Felipe Stakes in R6, a 1 1/16 mi. on the dirt track for the 3-year-olds. Derby Point distribution for the San Felipe will be 50-25-15-10-5. Unfortunately, the small field for the San Felipe got even smaller when trainer Bob Baffert decided to scratch undefeated Nysos. Baffert said Saturday that Nysos is fine physically. “In sports they have analytics; trainers, we have gut feeling. My original plan to was to just to wait. I don’t need to run him [Sunday]. I just might wait for the Santa Anita Derby.”

The Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby will be run on April 6.

Today's card will also feature three other graded stakes races, so there will be plenty of action in addition to the San Felipe.

"Mulled spirits are wine and liquors that have been heated and spiced. Mulled wine is usually made with red wine with various spices, fruits and sometimes slightly sweetened with honey.  Popular blends include cinnamon, nutmeg, citrus, vanilla, anise, cloves, raisins, or pears."
