Santa Anita Park 🏇🏾 // Sat., Dec. 28, 2024

Happy Saturday and National Chocolate Candy Day! 🍫

What a week it has been, filled with celebrations and even more to come! We decided to crack open the last box of chocolate candies and try our luck at the Santa Anita Racecourse again. So far, the meet has been fantastic, with plenty of winners and tickets cashed.

On Thursday, we took a shot at the late pick five but unfortunately managed to hit only four out of the five races. However, we did have some success that day, hitting five top pick winners with a return on investment (ROI) of -8.2%. We also had two second pick winners, which resulted in an ROI of -13.2% on win bets placed on them.

Today, we’re hoping for a better ROI and maybe even a nice multi-race winner! The card features ten races, including two stakes races, ensuring plenty of action to keep us entertained all afternoon. Yes, there’s a lot of football on, but that’s the beauty of playing the ponies; we can watch a race between plays and never miss any action.

The weather is looking favorable in true Southern California style, with highs in the mid-60s and partly cloudy skies. The track will be fast and the turf firm, as rain hasn’t hit that part of the state yet. Now, let’s take a look at our featured race before diving into today’s picks:

Featured Race: R6: 200K Joe Hernandez S. (G2)

6 1/2 Furlongs on Downhill Turf for 3-Yr. Olds & Up

Joe Hernandez was the voice of Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, from when the track opened on Christmas Day, 1934, until he fainted at the microphone on January 27, 1972. It was reported on Feb. 28th, 2016, on the TVG horseracing channel that Hernandez had been kicked by a horse earlier and died while calling a race at Santa Anita Park. During that time, he called 15,587 races in a row. Throughout his career, his cry of "There they go!" echoed over several notable races, including Seabiscuit’s win in the 1940 Santa Anita Handicap and Johnny Longden’s last ride in 1966. His cries of "And here comes Malicious!" and "Silky Sullivan trails …" are remembered to this day.
