We here at Turtle Sports could think of no better way to celebrate the butter made from this popular nut than by playing the ponies at Tampa Bay Downs
(yeah, we know, the peanut is not a nut; it's a legume).
Anyway - it's been a while since we visited the only Thoroughbred track on Florida's west coast. Opening in 1926, this track continues to evolve and grow. A 7/8th mile turf course, complete with a 1/4 mile chute, was added in 1998. Festival Day is far and away the most popular event on the calendar, with the highlight race being the G2 Tampa Bay Derby, which is also a KY Derby Prep race. (50 points for the winner - so this is a big one!) This year's TB Derby will be held on March 9th, and, of course, we'll be cappin' the entire card.
Today's card includes nine races for your Wednesday 🏇🏾 wagering. Thursday looks to be a day for the mudders, but today should be relatively rain-free - 🤞🏻
