Well that was just special… not just because we punched our ticket with the 2021 Players Champion Justin Thomas, barely missed out on Jon Rahm as well with another top 10 finish, but that whole tournament felt different. I did write in our preview that this tournament had all the vibes of a “major” and it absolutely delivered. Was it holding your breath on every tee shot to unfold day after day on 17, was it the Rubiks cube of the leaderboard all weekend, or was it simply the FANS?! I think we are in the midst of a strangely sweet spot with golf coverage right now. Without all the fans this past year, we as fans got to hear the conversations between caddie and player, player to player dynamics that we never had before. This weekend was a buzz with Jordan Spieth’s conversation to Morikawa after hitting into Rory Sabbatini. I’m sure the golf networks are keeping tabs on the traffic generated off of the hot-mics and hopefully will find a way to keep some of the insight as more and more fans return to the courses throughout this year. But congrats again goes to JT who has put himself in rarified air with the GOAT by checking the boxes on 10+ win, Players Champion, and Major Champion prior to turning 28. Thankful that we get to see JT on the course for many years to come.
