Happy Saturday & National Tamale Day!
Out West, we know this day very well as we all perk up a bit when our friend asks if we want some tamales! We also perk up when we hear it's win and you're in season on The Kentucky Derby prep trail. Stop one on the trail we head to Florence, KY to play the ponies of Turfway Park. Their win and in, and the featured race comes in the 12th the $700K Jeff Ruby Stakes. If you have been with us for a while you know we make plenty of bad, some say good, puns about stakes races but this one does it all on its own. R12 is a 9 furlong romp over the all-weather track. 100-50-25-15-10 points will be awarded to the top 5 horses and completely shake up the standings for that weekend in May! We never forget about the ladies around here, so we wanted to also highlight race 11 which is a Kentucky Oaks prep race. R11 is the $300 Bourbonette Statkes which will award 50-25-15-10-5 to the top five fillies for a chance to run that first Friday in May as well.
Overall today's card has 13 races, 6 stakes, and lotsa runners. The first post leaves the gate at 9:45 am pacific perfect for brunch time wagering! This track never seems to have short fields so we should see some great races. The weather is going to be a bit chiily with highs in the mid 40s, with windy conditions all day, but no rain in sight! As we noted this is an all weather track so there should be no issues there.
