Stop two today: we are heading north to Kentucky to race at Turfway Park. We have a card featuring nine races, but there are no stakes races again. We are still preparing for the big Derby prep weekend and need to reacquaint ourselves with this track. With a later starting card, we can expect cooler temperatures, with highs in the mid-60s and mostly cloudy skies. Since this track is synthetic, we should see limited changes throughout the card. There’s more racing scheduled for tomorrow, so be sure to check back then!

Turfway Park, located in Florence, Kentucky, opened in 1959 as Latonia Race Course, named after the original Latonia Race Track that operated from 1883 to 1939 in Covington, Kentucky. The track was renamed Turfway Park in 1986 following a change in ownership. Over the years, Turfway has been known for innovations such as introducing winter and night racing. In 2005, it became the first North American track to install a synthetic Polytrack surface to improve racing conditions during winter months. The venue hosts notable races, including the Jeff Ruby Steaks, a key prep race for the Kentucky Derby. In 2019, Churchill Downs Incorporated acquired Turfway Park and initiated significant renovations, including replacing the Polytrack surface with Tapeta in 2020 and constructing a new grandstand and gaming facility to enhance the racing experience.
