Well - it looks like the 2nd time will be the charm to get in this year's running of the King's Plate. After the rainout from last weekend, we are looking at a beautiful late summer day in Etobicoke, Ontario (just about a two-hour drive from its southeastern neighbor - Buffalo, NY.
The King's Plate, Canada's oldest thoroughbred horse race and the oldest continuously run race in North America, was founded in 1860. The race is the first in the Canadian Triple Crown, a series of three Thoroughbred horse races run annually in Canada which is open to three-year-old horses foaled in Canada. The other two legs of the triple crown include the Prince of Wales Stakes run at Fort Erie Race Track, and the Breeders’ Stakes run at Woodbine Racetrack.
In addition to the 1 Mil. King's Plate, we also get four very nice Stakes races on today's card, (rescheduled from the original Aug. 17th date, including the Grade 2, 2ooK, King Edward Stakes.
