The Lundin Line is named for William “Bill” Lundin, a top-rated horse racing handicapper who always loved the idea of creating a “special sauce” to predict the outcomes of the races he loved to watch. He had tinkered with formulas for years, but once COVID hit — with horse racing as the only sport to watch — Turtle Sports was born, and it was go time.

There were countless hours of conversation about how to take a vast amount of data from the Sport of Kings and turn it into a series of weighted “lines” that could consistently match or exceed the picks from major outlets and even individual track handicappers. Early on, results were mixed: some days we thought, “Hey, I think we’ve got it,” and other nights ended with Bill’s last text: “Guys, I think I’m done with this shit.”

He wasn’t.

The Lundin Line kept developing and evolving. Once we started consistently running full cards with our Lundin Line picks, Bill began diligently tracking the results. It quickly became clear we had something special. Our selections were going toe-to-toe with top handicappers — and on many days, beating them.

Bill’s tinkering has become a full-fledged handicapping engine that Turtle Sports is honored to continue offering, powered today by two of Turtle Sports’ founding members, Mr. Fink and Mr. W.
