We’ve made it to the weekend, and we all deserve to sit back, watch some horses run, and try to cash a few tickets. It’s a huge day in racing, with a Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series race at Saratoga and the biggest day of the year at Woodbine, where the King’s Plate headlines the card.
Last week was not our best effort. There’s no excuse for it: we had four top-pick winners out of 14 for a small loss on the day, and our second-pick winners performed even worse, with only one of those picks cashing in for a big losing day. We’ll focus on Saratoga and its 12-race card in this post, but please join us over on X for a breakdown starting in Race 6.
Let’s get into this strong card from the NYRA, which features two stakes races today, with the headline race in Race 10. That race is the Christophe Clement Turf Stakes, a Grade 1, 1 1/2-mile turf route for 3-year-olds and up. Named for the late trainer, who passed away in May 2025, the race was renamed last year to honor Clement, who won it—then known as the Sword Dancer Stakes—five times. The winner earns a spot in the Longines Turf at the Breeders’ Cup on the last weekend in October.
The weather today should be excellent, with highs in the mid-70s and partly sunny skies. There was rain this week, so we’re dealing with a muddy track and yielding turf, and there have been some scratches. You’ll see below that we’ve adjusted our top ratings to remove all scratches.
