Championship Saturday at the Breeders’ Cup is here, and we’re ready to keep the winners coming. On Future Stars Friday, four of our 10 top picks won, producing a modest 1.7% ROI. Our top two picks each won in Races 6 through 9, while our second-rated horses added just one more winner. If you cashed a ticket yesterday, congratulations—though the returns were modest. As discussed, we passed on the Future Pool because we didn’t know enough about the horses. Huges made the Juvenile look easy, and you could have backed him to win the Derby at around 9-1. Barring setbacks or upsets on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, that price will be long gone in future pools and on race day. We’ll follow the U.S. Road to the Kentucky Derby right here with our Lundin Line top ratings. We hope you’ll join us for the journey.

Today, the world’s best horses will compete for $23 million across nine stakes races, each connection hoping to prove their horse is the best. Three races precede the Breeders’ Cup card, offering a chance to find value and put a little coin in your pocket before the pools swell. The day’s feature is the 12th and final race: the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Run at 1¼ miles on dirt for three-year-olds and up, it carries a $7 million purse—the third-largest for a single race in the world. Eight horses were entered, but Magnitude has scratched, leaving seven runners. Many had favored Magnitude after the horse beat Forever Young, last year’s Classic winner, and Sovereignty, last year’s Derby champion, earlier this year. Forever Young is aiming to become only the second horse to win the Classic in consecutive years; Tiznow remains the only horse to have done so, in 2000 and 2001. Can Forever Young repeat, or will another champion leave the five-year-old behind? Another major storyline is the matchup between the last two Kentucky Derby winners, Sovereignty and Golden Tempo—the first such clash in this race since 1991. Only six horses have won both the Derby and the Classic, and just four have done so in the same year. Can this year’s emphatic Derby winner, Golden Tempo, or last year’s winner, Sovereignty, who missed the Classic through injury, prove to be the top horse? Today’s forecast calls for cooler weather than yesterday, with highs in the low 70s and clouds throughout the day. The courses have held up well, so expect a fast dirt track and firm turf for Champions Saturday.

Happy Breeders' Cup Saturday & Happy Halloween! 🎃👻💀🎃

🏇 About the Breeders' Cup 🏇

Founded in 1982 by horse breeder John R. Gaines, the Breeders’ Cup World Championships was created as a season-ending festival to unify international Thoroughbred racing and determine divisional champions. The inaugural event took place on November 10, 1984, at Hollywood Park in California, featuring seven Grade 1 races and $10 million in purses, capped by Wild Again’s dramatic three-way photo-finish victory in the first Breeders’ Cup Classic. Originally a single-day spectacle that rotates among premier racetracks, the event expanded to a two-day format in 2007 and has grown into an international showcase featuring 14 Grade 1 championship races.

The 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships—marking the 43rd edition of the event—takes place on October 30 and 31 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, which is hosting for the fourth time. The two-day festival offers over $34 million in total purses and awards across 14 Grade 1 races, opening with five two-year-old stakes on "Future Stars Friday" (highlighted by the $2 million Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies) and culminating in nine premier races on "Championship Saturday," anchored by the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Turf and the $7 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. The 2026 running features a deep international field of contenders, including standout entries such as Sovereignty and Japanese star Forever Young in the Classic, Ethical Diamond in the Turf, Nitrogen in the Distaff, Notable Speech and Lake Forest in the Mile, and unbeaten favorite Hughes alongside Irish filly Sun Goddess in the juvenile divisions.
