NFL power rankings are weekly or periodic lists that rank all 32 NFL teams from best to worst based on their overall strength, current form, and roster quality, rather than strictly by their win-loss record. Analysts use them to evaluate how teams stack up against each other at any given moment.

The sports gods giveth, and the sports gods taketh away. We are on to Week 7, licking our wounds after a dreadful Week 6. We had a plan, but every team we backed got punched in the mouth. I’ve been watching the Mike Tyson documentary, so that’s the only way I can describe what happened to our contest plays last week.

The Broncos did their job, starting our week with a bang in Pick 5 and Survivor. They tried to give the game away, which should have been our first indication that we had used all our luck for the week, but they found a way to win as a small home dog. The Jags had every opportunity to put the Texans away and seize control of the division. Instead, two of the league’s best defenses combined to allow the most total points in Week 6.

One angle I like to consider is fading a team that is a home dog but not a road favorite. Thanks to Chris Andrews of the South Point in Las Vegas for that trend. The Saints found their voice again, running the ball down the Giants’ throats while Jameis was simply Jameis. The Chargers were a bad play, given the current state of that organization and the Chiefs coming off a bye.

Finally, in Pick 5, the Cowboys’ defense proved once again that it is like a sieve and can’t stop anyone. Dallas is currently tied for last in defensive EPA and ranks second-to-last in defensive efficiency rate. We thought the Cowboys’ offense was the best unit on the field, but we were wrong. Now we have to consider where Dallas belongs in our power rankings.

Survivor wasn’t terrible, as our only loss came in the biggest upset of the season—and the most-picked game on the board. Still, the pressure is starting to build as the weeks go by and we have only 11 picks left. It’s insane that we play this game and need to hit an 18-game moneyline parlay just to have a chance to cash, alongside everyone else who most likely reached the same result with a different combination of teams.

College football update: The Owls are going in the wrong direction, much like Mr. W’s Eagles. They once again blew a lead and allowed the Charlotte 49ers to earn their first win of the season. Any hope of reaching a corporate-sponsored bowl is fading fast.
